I saw this while riding the WWW and it works!!!!!!!

One guy suggested baking the failed motherboard in a conventional oven preheated to 385 degrees Fahrenheit for exactly 8 minutes. This process should re-flow the graphics chip solder joints and give the motherboard a second life.

I had nothing to lose and decided to give it a try. Here’s how I did it step by step.

    STEP 1.

Remove all peripheral components installed on the motherboard (memory, cooling module, CPU, etc…). Remove all protective films from the motherboard. The motherboard will be baking at a very high temperature and all that can burn has to be removed.

Tip: Make lots of pictures while stripping down the motherboard. They will help you to put all removed protective films back in proper locations.

    STEP 2.

Remove all protective plastic films from the other side of the motherboard. Disconnect the audio cable.

    STEP 3.

The motherboard will be seating in the oven on the baking pan. In order to elevate the motherboard above the baking pan I’ll use a few screws.

    STEP 4.

I installed screws in four corners of the motherboard. There are plenty holes for screws.

    STEP 5.

You can see there is a 3/4 inch gap between the motherboard and desk surface. By the way, I positioned the motherboard so the graphics chip seats on the top.

    STEP 6.

Place the motherboard on the baking pan. Make sure it’s not touching anything.

Preheat the conventional gas oven to 385 degrees Fahrenheit and place the motherboard in the middle of the oven for 8 minutes. You’ll smell some burning plastic in about 6 minutes. :)

After that remove the baking pan with motherboard and let it cool down for about 30-40 minutes.

Install the motherboard back into the laptop, assemble the laptop back together and see if it works.

  • How To Reset Your Windows Password When You Have Forgotten It

To get started select which boot method you want to use and download either:

NOTE: Right click on the links below and select Save Link As.

Floppy image along with SCSI drivers (if you hard drives are attached to a SCSI controller)
CD image – scroll down to “Download” section (includes SCSI drivers)
    – If your PC supports USB booting, you can create a bootable USB drive from the files on the CD (see the readme file on the CD for more info).

Once you have selected and created the media, insert it in the drive (or plug into the USB port) and startup your PC. For this tutorial I am using the CD image for booting.

If you PC does not boot from the above media you selected, make sure your BIOS is enabled to boot from Floppy or CD or USB.

  • Namebench… DNS software

One of my co workers send me this link. It hunts down the fastest DNS servers available for your computer to use. namebench runs a fair and thorough benchmark using your web browser history, tcpdump output, or standardized datasets in order to provide an individualized recommendation. namebench is completely free and does not modify your system in any way.

  • GodMode in Windows 7

Windows 7 users are all abuzz about the OS and its GodMode. If you haven’t heard of it, GodMode is a feature that was revealed by CNet’s Microsoft Correspondent, Ina Fried. GodMode is a folder that brings together a long list of customization settings allowing you to change all your settings from one place. Neat huh? It’s very easy to enable and damn useful if you tweak things around a lot.

I’ve broken it down into five-step process to avoid confusion:

    Step 1: Right click.

    Step 2: Click create folder.

Step 3: Name your sparkly, new folder this, “GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}” and press enter.

Step 4: Blink as the folder changes form to look like the control panel.

Step 5: Open the folder and bask in all your godly, control panel-y power.
